Why I FAIL at blogging
So I’m finally going to try updating this thing again. I guess it’s just hard to update when you don’t really have anything exciting happen to you on a daily basis. Anyway here’s a rehash of every day for me
8:00 AM: Alarm goes off
9:00 AM-9:45AM: Debate with self as to when to get up. I tell myself that I should wake up earlier everyday so that I can get more work done/be a productive grad student, but usually sleep wins
10:00 AM-10:15AM: Get to lab, lock in computer, then change plates for embryos, collect embryos from last nights laying, check stocks
on TTh I have a class from 12-1:30. so that’s where the time goes, and then I somehow eat lunch after class and rush to do more labs things
on MWF I’m usually in lab, doing lab things, or doing hw on my downtime, or gchatting with Naeem
lunch somewhere in between, during which I read

6PM-9PM: leave lab
after lab-2AM/3AM: VEG OUT. This usually includes watching copious amounts of Hulu since I don’t have a TV (shows that I watch include Eastwick, Desperate Housewives, Colbert Report, Infomania, Family Guy, and GLEE) as well as Law and Order on Megavideo, or my latest DVD from Netflicks (I just started, the first one was Bridget Jones Diary) as well as videochatting with Naeem. I also read sites like

Please note: NO SCIENCE after I leave lab (should I really be here??)
2AM-3AM onwards: read a book then go to sleep
weekends seem to be a little better. Thankfully since my postdoc has a family, I don’t have to go in for lab. Weekends with Naeem are a BLAST, but that’s every other week. Other weekends use to kind of suck, they were just spent with me walking the mile to Target and the bank to get groceries, then coming home, and perusing the shops on nearby lake street which is two blocks away. Lately people have started to be a little more social. The weekend before last Larissa come on Friday and we saw New York I Love You, which was great, then I went to a pumpkin carving party, and then went to a museum, which was fun. This weekend should be interesting, Bio retreat, more science (whoop de fucking doo), and hopefully some more social time? Social time doesn’t seem to be a priority for a lot of people over here :(
Do I miss Austin? HELL YES. I miss the spontaneity and the human interaction and just everything about the city and it’s people. I know it’s not going to be the same if I go back, now that everyone has gone their separate ways, but it just sucks starting all over, especially in a place where only a few people seem to be on the same page as you, while everyone else only focuses on lab work and impressing professors and bragging about how much time they spent on the NSF or how many classes they’re taking (OMG we only have to take one class pass fail, and it seems like everyone and their mom are taking all these other classes for “fun” and then complaining about how much work they have to do! It’s your own fucking fault you took these extra classes!)
Things are getting better though. I’m slowly finding more “normal” people, which is a plus. And my lab people are really great, which helps out a whole lot. I just really hope things get better.
