Ahh Spring Break!
Life’s been kinda crazy, but I’ll definitely try to update this a little but more. I doubt I have any readers left, but thanks for reading if you’re still around! Anyway here’s a numbered post because this would get way too long if I tried to write a prose post about everything that’s been going on in my life in the past month!
1. So far I’ve been pretty good...

Good day :)
Today I finally learned how to ride a bike! It was amazing!! I can’t wait to practice more (and hopefully someday I’ll be able to ride around Pasadena!)
Also, I ended up cooking a really good dinner! I made chicken from a Real Simple recipe
http://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/browse-all-recipes/sweet-spicy-chicken-00000000014577/index.html
but didn’t use any oregano
and...
Trying to look on the bright side
I was talking to the postdoc I share my office with today, and I mentioned to her that I have trouble sleeping as of late because I have a ton of stuff on my mind. She said she had the same problem, and to get to sleep she’d think of the few goods things that happened during the day and focus on those. This week has been full of emotional ups and downs based on work, and things are sort of...
Best weekend so far in 2010!
Apart from all the airport drama (in the previous super duper long post) I actually had an AMAZING time this weekend with Naeem. And I’m really starting to like it over there (it would be totally awesome if I could move there once I figure out what I’m doing with my life!)
Here are all the great things that happened while I was there!
Friday
1. See Naeem at 7 in the morning!! It...
Fear of Flying
This weekend was full of both high and lows, and because of the utter ridiculousness of certain events I think I should document it. I should preface this by saying that, to my dismay, I really don’t blog very much about weekends that I spend in Berkeley. After this weekend, I decided that I really need to change this, since my time spent at Berkeley is usually AMAZING, and totally makes...
Feeling better
Just spent the good part of this afternoon and this night with my old rotation lab (one of the grad students was graduating!) Seeing them and talking to them made me feel so much better about science and life in general. I think I might just have found the right lab for me!
dinner tonight
the only resolution I seem to be keeping is the “save more money by not eating out” one. I’m really glad Naeem helped me get into the habit of cooking everyday though!
Tonight I made Latkes! Here’s the recipe I used and they turned out great!

I'm Thankful
These past few weeks have been pretty tough because of drama going on with my family and work and stuff. Luckily yesterday night and this morning made me realize how lucky I am to have certain resources that help me get through this kind of stuff
First of all, I’m so thankful for my old lab. Yesterday there was a dinner party at my old postdoc’s house, and it was soo nice to see...
thank goodness for the weekend
Finally a day to myself. Though I had all this stuff planned out but all I want to do is stay in bed and watch online TV. Right now I’m starting to get into Buffy the Vampire Slayer which has been pretty good so far. Snehal’s party is tonight and I’m really looking forward to seeing/hanging out with people from my old lab. I miss them terribly.
Yesterday I ended up having a...
Hooray for productivity
Lab is going great! I was having some trouble working with frog, but so far working with fish has been awesome :) And I FINALLY went to Caltech gym today which was great. I’ll have to say this, I think I like Caltech’s gym better than UT’s bc it isn’t filled with super skinny sorority girls or ultra buff frat boys, but NORMAL people, so I don’t feel as bad about...
Back to Reality
Naeem left early this morning ( like 6am) so he could get to a retreat! I was a bit depressed so I ended up watching some 30 Rock and then collapsing.
About 4 hours later the day got immensely better :) I was able to talk to Naeem’s sis-in-law about all my parent drama (essentially I was backed into telling them about Naeem this break, and my relationship with them is pretty shitty right...
Everything is Amazing :)
Though Naeem and I were definitely super super depressed because of the outcome of the game, things have been really really great this week.
1. I got to see SO MUCH BURNT ORANGE around Pasadena! It was AMAZING to see all the Texas fans and it made me feel like I was back home in Austin :)
2. Naeem and I got to see Alex, who was in town for the game! We had a really nice dinner at PF...
Texas Fight!
Excited for the game tomorrow, happening where I live!! Go Texas!!!
Things are going great now! Having a blast with Naeem, new rotation is going alright, and just came home from seeing Avatar in 3D!! Woo for an amazing two days so far!
HOME
After 6 hours of flying I’m home (well I have been for about 5 hours, but I spent most of that vegging out since I was exhausted!)
On the plane ride, or at least for a third of it, this nice, elderly, abuela-type spanish woman sat next to me. Assuming I was hispanic, she continually spoke with me in Spanish. Thankfully, due to about 3 years of high school Spanish I was able to understand...
Post Secret!
I was at B&N today and was flipping through the new postsecret book when I found that someone had left an extra secret secret! It basically said “I wish I knew what it was like to fall in love” and was signed “Sweet Debator”
Anyway it brought back random high school/speech team/HAMUN memories! I guess one thing I really miss is the all the innocence and crazy emotions...
Pasadena Tomorrow!
And I can’t wait! I love love love Texas but there has been waay too much drama this break and I’m going to be so happy just to get back to my place!! And then Naeem’s coming in on Tuesday! woohoo!
I’m both really excited and really nervous. Second rotation is gonna start, with THE professor I came to Caltech for. I really want to make a good impression on her but...
Thanks for making me feel better Lemondrop
I had a pretty lame NYE and was getting a little sick of seeing articles about what dress you should wear to NYE parties, what you should do at said parties and even how to make nice drinks for said parties. Anyway I was just looking through Lemondrop and this article totally made my night!:

hopefully these make you feel...
Happy New Year!
one of my new year’s resolutions is going to be trying to get back into blogging with this. Anyway I saw Janice do one of these on fb and I thought it would be a great way to celebrate 2009!
What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before? Moved to California!! Lived on my own financially! Did you keep your new years’ resolutions? I’m sure one of my resolutions was...

Star Struck
The past few days have been pretty great in regards to seeing celebrities, I saw David Beckham on Sunday and basically ran into the guy from Numb3rs on the way to work yesterday, though I was too flabbergasted to say anything.
Apart from all that excitement things have been going well :) I got a new project to work on from my post doc (which makes life so much better since the computer I need to...
Crazy weekend!
This weekend was ridiculous, and made me really appreciate the quiet time I get when I come home. Here’s a summary:
-riding 3.5+ hours with my postdoc, her husband and their 18 month old son to San Diego for Caltech Biology retreat! He was absolutely adorable and apparently I made an impression on him (he kept asking for “Srimo” all weekend long and made his dad come up to my...
yay for skype!
I got to talk to my cousin in India and Genevieve :)
Yay for first successful meal made in California...
I made a soup with Shrimp and Tofu (I used to hate tofu, what’s California done to me???)
Here’s the recipe:
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chinese-Shrimp-and-Tofu-Soup/Detail.aspx
I did make a bunch of modification though since I hate peas, and still do.
Basically I just fried some garlic and ginger paste, added the shrimp and tofu, fried them for a bit, took them out, fried carrots...
Things are looking up!
I got tickets for the LA Galaxy vs. Chivas USA playoff game on Sunday! Woo David Beckham!!
Why I FAIL at blogging
So I’m finally going to try updating this thing again. I guess it’s just hard to update when you don’t really have anything exciting happen to you on a daily basis. Anyway here’s a rehash of every day for me
8:00 AM: Alarm goes off
9:00 AM-9:45AM: Debate with self as to when to get up. I tell myself that I should wake up earlier everyday so that I can get more work...

Being a grown up sucks
Second day home, and I’m ridiculously tired yet again. Funny thing is that I really didn’t do very much during lab today. I guess finally making myself wake up early in the morning is taking its toll on me.
The horrible thing is that I have so much stuff to do right now, but I’m not motivated in the slightest to do any of it. I really don’t know how I did it in...

Tired
Just came back from my first day of classes, and I’m ridiculously tired :( I guess I’ve been in vacation mode for so long (this long summer and most of my senior year) that I’m having a really hard time adjusting to working a full day. I’m really hoping that I can get used to it.
Good things from yesterday
1. Dinner was sushi from Trader Joe’s (yummy and cheap!)

Weekend lists!
Good things from this weekend!
1. convincing myself to drag my ass out to Boulevard 3 (a club on Sunset Blvd) with Caltech grad students. It was the most amazing club I’ve ever been to, like the stuff you see in movies! Here’s the picture gallery: http://nytlife.com/photogallery/index.php
2. getting free ice cream at the Caltech club fair! Great on a hot day!
3. getting great...
Woo for lists again!
Things I was thankful for yesterday!
1. Meeting a lot of really nice female grad students (which was great bc the male to female ratio here is crazy!!) at the Women’s Programs orientation seminar!

3. Having dinner with Naeem via the google video date :D
4. Watching Glee! Ahh so good!
5. Having a really nice, and somewhat fancy, but totally...
Blog Fail
Sorry for not updating, things just got a bit crazy around here and I wasn’t really sure of what to write. I think I might go back to the whole 5 things I’m thankful for format because I think it’ll force me to update this thing more often.
Anyway, here’s a brief summary of my life since the last update!
Berkeley was great! Albeit the weird temperatures (the 80 degree...
Bay Area :)
Currently typing this from Naeem’s apartment in Berkeley! The weather here is pretty awesome (really nice and cool) and I’m super excited for the next two weeks. Naeem and my mini vacation was pretty awesome (will put pictures soon on FB!) California is SO PRETTY! On our drive up we saw mountains, plains, forests, and the ocean! It was gorgeous! There were even some fields with cows...
Workin for the Weekend
I finally have most of my stuff moved in and apartment decorated! Will put pictures up on fb soon :)
This week has been one of the most stressful of my entire life. Not only was I trying to figure out how to get around in a new city, make sure I have all the stuff I need before I become indefinitely car-less, and do everything Caltech requires of new students BUT I had to deal with a ton of...
Greetings from the Golden State!
Super tired after a day of moving! Finally blogging from the new apartment, which is a lot nicer than I thought it would be. The new roommate is great too! Now just to get through the remaining two days with the rents, then Naeem, our Cali coast vacation and SF for two weeks! I’m super excited!

Back from India!
Just got back from India yesterday, but I was so jet lagged that I could barely function, so apologies for the delayed post.
As cliched as it sounds, I think my time in India can be best summed up by that ever famous Clint Eastwood movie. Here’s a few tidbits:
The Good:
Hanging out with my grandma and having a really great time with her. She was pretty sick/weak when I got there, but our...
